A B O U T

CHICO is here to serve modern Mexican cuisine and pay

tribute to Mesoamerica's contributions towards

civilization by honoring through food and representation.

CHICO is formerly recognized as Chicomecóatl

(chee | cōh | méh | qúat); which is the name of our ancient Aztec goddess muse who is recognized for her subsistence and milpa insurements.

Our tribute is dedicated to our forebearers,

whom were and are maíz farmers and producers of

nixtamal within the volcanic basin of

southern Guanajuato, Mexico.

Our intention is to provide people with access to

nutritious food. Working with a like minded community

has allowed us to work towards that goal. We proudly

partner with local, organic farms such as Buckeye Creek Farm, Grow Where You Are, Sparta Gardens, and Mena's Farm, as well as other thoughtful partners.

By utilizing the work of these growers, we have

access to these nutrient dense ingredients to help us

create our take on modern Mexican food while honoring

the rich and diverse heritage of food from Mexico.

Proudly serving several interpretations of dishes

at a variety of venues in Atlanta and beyond!

Our goals are to not only provide the community with education, accessibility and creating diversity of

taste and culinary experiences, as well as our very own

packages of CHICO maíz y masa goods.

We work with food in a wide range: seed to plate education, catered meal requests published

recipe contributions, restaurant consulting,

food sourcing/meal programs & menu development/education, event coordinating,

food styling & prop pieces + more.

Maricela Vega FOUNDED CHICO in the summer of 2016. Tamales have been at the forefront of our development as an organization. Through these [tamales] pop ups held in parking lots, farmers markets, and obscure locations, we have built and shaped our rep up to who were are now and to who we will be continuing to grow into-- a southern centered company distributing masa goods throughout the southeast..

MARI is culinary director of CHICO and a chef based in Atlanta with roots in the state of Guanajuato, MX.

Over a decade of experience in the food industry brings her to current state- the development of her long-time project now known as Chico.

Careful sourcing along with Mexican cuisine have become a part of her repertoire as a James Beard nominated Rising Chef along with multiple Atlanta based accolades and several national nods.

Mari enjoys learning and teaching whether it is with a group of young students in a classroom or via a set of plated dishes. At the end of the day through these mediums, the main goal is to bring representation, nutrition and a delicious experience.
